Stud Medicine
A large part of Holmes Veterinary work in the springtime consists around looking after the needs of breeding mares and the production of foals in Kerry.
This includes full gynaecological assessment, caslyx operations, intrauterine lavage and biopsy, direct microscopy on the spot for uterine infections and inflammation and culture and sensitivity of pathogens from poor breeding mares.
Artificial insemination is available on site or at your own farm. Our vets are experienced in frozen and chilled semen techniques and we often receive semen from all over Europe to our clinic. We maintain 4 ultrasound machines in the practice for this work.
Routine foal management is carried out with hernias, septicaemia, respiratory disease such as rhodococcus being the most common problems encountered.
